Glass Artistry Studio

Chris Barber

Chris Barber's stained glass boxes are at the same time antique and startlingly contemporary. The faceted glass jewels, produced in an array of colors by German artisans in the 1920's were originally used in intricate stained glass windows, or with a silver backing worn as costume jewelry.

Barber's boxes, each singular in design, represent a novel usage of these historic jewels. Using century-old techniques, each piece of glass is cut, wrapped with copper foil and soldered into place. Another innovation built into each box is a tiny mirror so that light, shape and color can imaginatively interact.

A self-taught glass artist, born and raised in Nebraska. Barber has worked as an independent artist for 25 years. Now residing in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, her jeweled boxes are the latest reflection of her grace and fluent style.

Barber is now emerging as one of the most successful and inventive stained glass artist in the midwest. Her work has been exhibited in prominent galleries in numerous states, including Hawaii. Chris Barber's dazzling collection of faceted glass jeweled boxes are shifting harmonies of light and color that reflect a time honored tradition of glass, craftsmanship and beauty.
